Simon Clark is a nonresident senior fellow at the Center for American Progress working on the intersection of foreign policy and technological change, with a particular focus on restoring the Internet as a force for global democracy.

For 15 years, Clark built and led Fidelity’s European venture capital operation before moving to Generation Investment Management, the sustainability-focused investing firm, as a senior adviser to their growth equity practice. During his time at Fidelity, Clark served as chairman of the British Venture Capital Association, making the case for policies to encourage entrepreneurship and innovation. Before joining Fidelity, Clark was the chief financial officer of the TheStreet.com. Clark qualified as a chartered accountant at Price Waterhouse before moving to Reuters, where he held a series of finance and technology positions, culminating in an appointment as the first director of Web Services. In that role, he was responsible for launching Reuters.com; advising on a series of technology investments and partnerships; and creating a news website which linked reporters to aid workers in conflict zones.

Clark is a board member of Foreign Policy for America, an advocacy group for a principled U.S. approach to the world, and of Hope not Hate, an anti-racist campaigning group. He served on the Human Rights Watch London Committee, was a Trustee for British Future, a think tank working on issues of identity and integration. He was educated at Westminster School and Wadham College, Oxford, where he read Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PPE) and was the college PPE scholar.
