Richard Tren is a program officer for the Searle Freedom Trust, a grant-making foundation that supports work that will lead to a more just, free, and prosperous society.

Richard was born and grew up in South Africa and was educated in the UK. Prior to joining the Searle Freedom Trust, he co-founded Africa Fighting Malaria, a non-profit based in South Africa and the United States, devoted to reforming and improving malaria control, and other public health programs, in Africa. Richard has been published in scientific journals, including the British Medical Journal and The Lancet, as well as in the popular press, including the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Investors’ Business Daily, and Forbes. He is a board member of the Competitive Enterprise Institute and of Taliesin Nexus. Richard became a U.S. citizen in 2014 and he lives in Washington, DC.
